Regarding the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake of September 6th, 2018

This is to advise that at 3:08 a.m. on September 6, 2018, an earthquake occured with an epicenter in the east central part of the Iburi region in southwest Hokkaido. JCCS has confirmed that there are no abnormalities in the facilities of the Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project. The injection of CO2 into the offshore reservoirs has been in temporary suspension since September 1, due to the stoppage of supply from the CO2 source.

The Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project reached 200 thousand tonnes of cumulative CO2 storage on August 18th, 2018.

CO2 injection at the Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project has been resumed on July 25th. Injection had been suspended due to the stoppage of supply from the CO2 source on account of scheduled maintenance, as well as JCCS’s statutory maintenance of its facilities.

CO2 injection is suspended due to the stoppage of supply from the CO2 source (refinery) on account of large-scale scheduled maintenance, during which JCCS will also conduct statutory inspection/maintenance of its facilities. We expect to resume CO2 injection in late July.
