On January 29, Mr. Koichi Hagiuda, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry visited the Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project Center. Mr. Hiroaki Ishizuka, Chairman of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and Toshiaki Nakajima, President of Japan CCS received Mr. Hagiuda and gave a tour of the facility.
Following the tour, Mr. Hagiuda commented that “CCS is a key technology to realize carbon neutrality by 2050. The Tomakomai CCS Demonstration Project Center is the site of the first large-scale CCS demonstration in Japan, as well as the world’s first CCS project implemented near a city center and residential area. Achieving 300 thousand tonnes of CO2 injection while cooperating closely with the local community, it is a role model for the world.”
